Dear President Hu

I am writing today to express my concern about the case of Dr. Wang Bingzhang, a US permanent resident currently serving a life sentence in Shaoguan, Guangdong Province, China. I have come to learn about Dr. Wang’s plight recently, and I feel compelled to lend my voice to the effort to appeal your government on behalf of his family.

It is my understanding that Dr. Wang’s health has deteriorated steadily since his imprisonment in 2002. He suffers from chronic phlebitis, severe allergies, untreated depression, and has been stricken with at least three strokes in the last six years. These ailments would be trying on anyone under any conditions, let alone on an aging man serving his sentence in solitary confinement.

Dr. Wang has already entered his sixties and is serving his seventh year in prison. During this time, his father has passed away, his family has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to make the half-around the globe monthly prison visits, his children have entered adulthood, and his beloved mother prays achingly for his return daily, as he lingers in his cell. Based on my understanding of the charges against him, I have personal doubts about how deserving Dr. Wang is of this level of suffering.

In light of the above, I humbly lend my voice to the campaign to have Dr. Wang released for medical parole. I make my appeal primarily on humanitarian grounds. His situation resonates with me, and with the many other individuals whom I know have already expressed their concerns. Thank you for your time.

我给您写信的目的，是想表达我对王炳章博士一案的关注。王博士是美国永久居民，目前被判无期徒刑，在广东韶关的中共监狱中服刑。我最近获知了王博士的艰难处境，觉得有必要与众人一起表达我的声音，为了他的家庭恳请贵政府酌情对待王博士。

我获知王博士从2002年入狱后身体就每况愈下。他患有慢性静脉炎、严重的过敏症，从没有获得治疗的忧郁症，在六年的刑期里，他至少还三次严重中风。这些病况对任何人在任何场合都是种难以忍受的痛苦，更何况这是一位年迈的老人在单人牢房里所遭受的状况。

王博士已经年高六十余，在服第七年刑役。在这七年期间，他父亲去世；他的家人要飞过半个地球，花费上万的旅费才能完成每月一次短暂的探望；他的小孩已经进入成年。深爱着他的老母终日以泪洗面，只盼他早日能从监狱获得释放。通过我个人对他情况的了解，我对他的量刑的合理性表示怀疑。所以，也恳请主席能对他的情况多多了解。

综合以上情况，我作为一个普通人，恳请贵政府能让王博士获得保外就医的待遇。我的请求完全是基于人道主义的立场。我，以及许多我所认识的朋友都对王博士目前的处境都深表关注。
