Los Angeles Times Reports on Mr. Feng

Washington, D.C. –

Encouraged by a growing support network of fellow Chinese citizens from around the world, human rights lawyer, Mr. Feng Zhenghu, remains determined to keep his vigil at Terminal 1 Narita Airport, Toykyo Japan until Chinese authorities allow him to return to his home in Shanghai, Mainland China.

Mr. Feng has been refused entry into China eight times since June 2nd, 2009.  His last attempt was on November 3, 2009 when Chinese authorities blocked his entry at the airport in Shanghai.  He was forcibly put on a flight to Japan. Upon arrival in Japan, he voluntarily gave up his Japanese visa.  He has remained in Terminal 1 at Narita Airport since that time. He is receiving food and supplies from supporters who are flying in from Hong Kong and other countries.

“This is a clear violation of  Article 13 paragraph 2  of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, to which China is a signatory,” said Dr. Yang Jianli, Initiatives for China President.” This illegal practice by the Chinese government denies thousands of citizens such as Mr. Feng and myself from ever returning to our homeland. Initiatives for China has been providing logistical and communciation support for Mr. Feng.

Mr. Feng is a well known human rights lawyer who has published many articles on the need for political reform in China.  He is one of the original signatories to Charter 08, a document published on the Internet, December 10, 2008.  The Charter called for specific legal and social reforms of the Chinese government, including the right of return and a return to the rule of law in China.  Most recently, Mr. Feng visited Washington, DC as a delegate to the Fifth Interethnic/Interfaith Leadership Conference sponsored by Initiatives for China and funded by the National Endowment for Democracy.  The Conference promotes cooperation and respect between the various ethnic and religious groups of China.  During the Conference, Mr. Feng joined other delegates from Mainland China as well as Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macao.
